On iPhone, I could not use a complete GitHub URL to navigate directly to a file in GitHub Mobile. Pasting the URL into the app was treated as a search query and returned “No results found,” even though the repository and file existed and my account had administrator access. I could reach the same file by navigating manually.

Scope and impact
The pasted-URL behavior is something GitHub Mobile can address directly. The initial link interaction in ChatGPT may be a separate ChatGPT iOS app problem. I have not isolated the Universal Link handoff failure, and I am not claiming both behaviors are GitHub defects. GitHub should investigate its supported URL routing where applicable; ChatGPT’s link rendering and outgoing handoff should be investigated separately by OpenAI.
AI assistants increasingly provide direct links to repository files, issues and documentation. Moving from an assistant to the corresponding location in GitHub Mobile should be effortless. A pasted-URL opening action would also provide a reliable fallback when another app’s link handling fails.
