If you think you can give it a try, you'll grow through your challenges, and the best way to learn is to jump in headfirst. If it doesn't work out, better luck next time. Have confidence, but keep your feet on the ground. |

Hi @new2code — one thing that helped me trust a contribution early was completing a small change with a clear acceptance check and seeing it pass review. Your JavaScript and accessibility interests match one currently unassigned task in a project I maintain: #13: guarantee 48px touch targets for the five mobile bottom tabs The focused change is in If that feels like the kind of real-world accessibility change you want, comment |

Witam wszystkich, mam na imię Paweł i od 2015 jestem emigrantem. Wyjechałem do sąsiedniego kraju by stworzyć rodzinę normalnie pracować i żyć. |

Building small calculators is actually a great way to learn front-end development because they give you a real problem to solve while practising HTML, CSS, JavaScript, validation, and responsive design. The hiking pace calculator is a good example of that approach. A project such as a body type calc could be another interesting exercise, especially if you focus on accessibility and making the interface simple for different users. Keep building and improving these small projects—they can make a portfolio much more convincing. |

Introduce yourself
Hi everyone, I’m Sam. I’m currently working towards my first role as a front-end developer and using GitHub to learn in public and track what I’m building.
I’ve been focusing on HTML, CSS, JavaScript and some Python, and trying to move away from just tutorials into actually building my own projects (even when they’re a bit rough). I’m also really interested in accessibility and making sure what I build works for as many people as possible.

Where are you in your GitHub journey?
Building my first project
And where are you going next on GitHub?
I want to keep building projects that feel more “real world” and improve the ones I’ve already made instead of jumping between ideas.
Also looking to start contributing more to open source, even if it’s small things like improving documentation or accessibility.
What technical skills or projects are you working on?
I recently built a hiking pace calculator using HTML, CSS and JavaScript:
https://githubfast.kdns.fr/new2code/hiking-pace-calculator
I’ve also been completing challenges on Frontend Mentor to keep practising and improving:
https://www.frontendmentor.io/profile/new2code
I’ve contributed small accessibility improvements like adding alt text to images, which made me realise how important those details are.
Right now I’m focusing on strengthening my JavaScript and getting more confident building without following step by step guides.
Got a question for us? (optional)
For people already working as developers, what helped you feel confident enough to start applying for roles?
